The library is located at 1500 W. Broadway in Polk City, Iowa.

Library Hours:

  • Monday-Thursday 10 am-8 pm
  • Friday 10 am-6 pm
  • Saturday 10 am-4 pm

The book drop is accessible year-round.

Weather Policy

The Polk City Community Library Board has deemed the following policy for closing the library due to inclement weather. If the North Polk School District shall close in the morning due to inclement weather, the Polk City Community Library will not open until 4:00 P.M. that afternoon, weather permitting. Upon the discretion of the Library Director, the weather policy may be overridden.

Accreditation

The library received accreditation by the State of Iowa in July 2006.  The library was recognized for its administrative effforts in governance and funding, materials collection, services, public relations, facilities and access.  The accreditation is valid through June 2009.

Kim Kellogg

Kim Kellogg

Kim Kellogg has been the Director of the Polk City Community Library since February 2000.  She has lived in Polk City for 44 years.  She started on the Polk City Library Board and then worked part time at the Library before applying for the Director position.  The highlight of her job has been the building of the new library building.  Kim was the Library Director during the entire building process and is enjoying working in the new building.  The new library is a great addition to our community! 

Kim says "I have been married to my best friend for 27 years.  We have two grown, married daughters. Kim is the proud grandmother of three grandchildren, Alexandria, 4 years, Danyel, 6 months and Jackson, 2 months.  My hobbies include reading, being with my family, and going for rides on our Harley."

Pam Witt

Pam Witt

Pam Witt has joined the library as full time Adult/Reference Librarian, in August 2006.  She had previously worked at the library part time for 7 years.  She lives in rural Polk City.  She enjoys reading, puzzles, flea markets, hanging out with her niece and nephew, bird watching and Butterfly/Hummingbird gardening.

Kelsey Blessman

Kelsey Blessman

Assistant Librarian, Kelsey Blessman has been hired to work part time at the library. She is a 2004 graduate of North Polk High School. Kelsey is taking design courses at Iowa State University with a possible major in photography.

Library Board

Mission Statement:  Each patron will have equal access to information and ideas, in order to lead an enriched life through lifelong learning and to participate knowledgeably and productively in a democratic society. 

The Library Board meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month, at 7:30 p.m., at the library.  The public is welcome to attend all board meetings.  View meeting agendas and minutes.
